Our library’s mission is to promote books and reading to our students and enhance their literacy and independent learning skills. The library provides our students with openings beyond the classroom, to widen their book choices in terms of genre of literature, other learning opportunities, and support with their personal development and well-being.

Supporting the Curriculum
Resources for Teaching and Learning
Our school library is a super study space that supports teaching and learning across the academy. The library has a teaching area, study areas, offers homework help, networked PCs, laptops and iPads that support students’ research assignments and independent learning. It also provides reading support sessions, books and digital devices that facilitate literacy development, reading for enjoyment and well-being.
Reading Matters – Sparx Reader e-platform, books
‘Reading ability has a considerable impact on both educational attainment and wider life outcomes.’
Sparx Reader gives KS3 students access to a rich range of eBooks at home and school, with quizzes throughout to support engaged reading. Students can request a Gold Reader Pass to add any paperback book from home or the school library and earn points by keeping e-reading logs on Sparx. Readers are rewarded regularly with positive points and end of term certificates and prizes.

Weekly reading homework is set on our e-platform Sparx Reader for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 students. Students are expected to read for half an hour per week, between 3pm Friday and 9pm the following Thursday.
